About This Wine...

A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, partially aged in oak. Medium to full bodied with aromas of brambly fruit and a touch of caramel. Superbly balanced with a concentrated, yet elegant, texture.

“Accompanying the conventional notes of ripe cherries and blackberries, there is a juicy and meaty character that reminds you of black olives. With a velvety full body and a hint of toast and pepper, it is one to accompany game and rich meat dishes.” Gaby Guedez in thetaste.ie March 2018

This remotely situated domaine is one of the region’s leading estates, run by Patricia Boyer-Domergue since 1990. Very elegant wines with a Burgundian quality are produced from the organically farmed 12 ha of vineyards. In the cellar Patricia uses only a small amount of oak and in some wines, none at all, preferring to keep the wines in tank longer. These are very fine wines from a very fine estate.

“Clos Centeilles” benefits from the “cru” appellation status of being in Minervois La Livinière and owes much to Mourvèdre which is capable of exceptional results with ageing. With the ambition of bringing this variety back into the limelight, we took the decision to adopt the “Lyre” (U, double curtain) trellis method which we have pioneerd here in the Languedoc. With its ripened tannins, the Syrah from our oldest parcels brings harmony to the blend whilst the Grenache Noir, which is picked as late as possible, brings the varieties together resulting in a very smooth, well balanced wine.
PERSONALITY AND TASTING
Initial aromas of red berries and spices. On the palette, the tannins blend with the alcohol resulting in a balanced, full bodied wine with a velvety finish. Of all the wines, the Clos Centeilles is the one that consistently shows the best results and gains in complexity with ageing for long periods. With vintages that are over 20 years old still tasting exceptionally, it shows great promise for the future.
